The Maine Centers for Disease Control has a dire warning for people who spend a lot of time outside during the summer months.

We have previously told you that the world's deadliest creature is very active in many parts of New England during the warmer months.  Believe it or not, we are talking about mosquitos!

Yes, it is hard to believe that such a tiny, and common, bug could be the deadliest creature in the world.  They are dangerous not because of what they can do to a person through a physical attack.  They are deadly because of the serious illnesses that they carry.  Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile, for example.

The Summer 2025 Mosquito Season

According to an article on the WABI website, the Maine CDC is warning Mainers, and visitors to Maine, to be prepared for a very active mosquito season season.

The article explains that, because of the amount of rain that we got during the spring and early part of the summer, we are likely to see a significantly higher than normal amount of mosquitos once we get a little further into the warm summer months.

If you're outside in Maine this summer, cover up with light, long-sleeve clothing, slap on some EPA-approved bug spray (DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus works great), and try to avoid being out at dawn or dusk when they’re most active. Oh, and if you’ve got standing water around your yard—birdbaths, buckets, even that old tire—dump it. That’s where they breed. Stay bite-free and enjoy the summer.
