Several People Dead Following Central Maine Shooting Incident
On Wednesday evening, April 2, various Maine news outlets reported that police were investigating a shooting incident on Route 9 in Lisbon.
A press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss has revealed more details about that tragic incident.
The press release explains that just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the 800 block of Middle Road (also known as Route 9) in Sabattus for the report of a shooting.
The investigation found that 29-year-old James Davis III, of Sabattus, was riding in a vehicle driven by his mother, 47-year-old Christine Smith, of Sabattus.
While they passed through the intersection of King Road and Middle Road, Davis allegedly shot and killed his mother. The vehicle reportedly rolled through the intersection and came to a stop at the edge of the road.
Davis allegedly exited the vehicle and began shooting at passing cars, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The press release said that 53-year-old Katherine Williams of Sabattus was hit by gunfire as she drove through the area. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The press release goes on to say:
Two other drivers 19-year-old Tyson Turner of Jay and 35-year-old David Wilson of Hartford were also shot. They were traveling in separate cars and were the sole occupants in their vehicles. Both men were transported to Central Maine Medical Center and are expected to survive. Davis then shot and killed himself. The three deceased individuals were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where autopsies will be performed.
Law enforcement officials plan to hold a press conference on the matter at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 3.
