Popular Maine Country Club Could Soon Have a New Owner
If you have lived in Maine for more than a few years, you have probably come to realize that, while the season is very short, golfers in Maine are a die-hard bunch.
They all loved to spend time on the course, and most like to spend an equal amount of time having drinks at the clubhouse.
It looks like one of Maine's most popular golf courses could soon have a new owner.
The Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono
The Penobscot Valley Country Club, located just a short drive from the University of Maine at Orono, was founded in 1924. The 18-hole golf course was designed by the renowned golf course architect Donald Ross. Over its 101-year history, the club has hosted numerous amateur golf tournaments, and some of the sport’s legends, including Arnold Palmer, have played rounds on its course.
In addition to the course, there is a restaurant called The Donald Ross Grill on-site. They also have an event space for parties and wedding receptions.

A Golf Course For Sale
According to an article on the WABI website, owner Larry Springer has revealed that he is in talks to sell the course to a man who owns at least one other golf course.
The article explains that Matt Kirtland, who bought the Lucerne Golf Club two years ago, is in talks to purchase the property. They have reportedly agreed on a price, but the deal is still in the early stages.
Springer explains that he had planned to close the course for the upcoming season but, as he has over 100 members signed up for the year, he did not want to do that to them with such short notice. Instead, if the deal is not final by the spring, Springer will operate the course, but only offer limited food & beverage services.
