There is just something about snacks here in Maine that practically scream, we do things our way and we like it.

For example, why just eat plain boring chocolate when you can have one with mashed potato inside aka Needham. Needhams are not widely available outside of New England.

Or take a sip of Coke and sprinkle in a little cough medicine, aka Moxie. Moxie is also the Maine state official soft drink, as per Maine.gov. Our local Maine snacks aren’t just snacks they are a lifestyle. Give me all of the Humpty Dumpty All Dressed Chips. Eating those is what happens when indecision meets brilliance.

And of course we aren’t going to discus snacks without the treasure trove of all of the different whoopie pies. And of course we aren’t going to discus snacks without jumping into the treasure trove of all of the different Maine whoopie pies. They are basically the cake you can eat with one hand, so you can shovel snow in your brothers face with the other. Brilliant, right?

We just get snacks here in Maine. They are built with flavor and also function.

Take red snappers for example, those neon-red hot dogs that look like they lost a fight with a Crayola box. They pop when you bite them, which is both kind of alarming, but also extremely satisfying.  Around here, snacks aren't just food they're entertainment, and sometimes minor weapons. And we cannot forget one of my moms favorite snacks, brown bread in a can, yes. Bread in a can. It's the geniuses at B&M in Portland, Maine who thought of canning bread. It's a must try!

See, we Mainers know how to create snacks that are delicious and versatile.
