A familiar face in the Bangor television news scene makes his return this week, after a 4-year hiatus.

Where Will He Be Working?

Bangor has missed Craig Colson's smiling face and distinctive voice on their television news. So I'm happy to report that he will be making his return to the anchor desk this week at both ABC 7 and FOX Bangor. Craig says he's excited to be back and that it's "like going home again." Especially since he's going to be working with his brother, Matt Colson, who was just hired as the station's assistant news director. I asked Matt how he feels about working with his brother Craig and he told me he couldn't be happier.

He is the best journalist in Bangor. You know how much he cares about Maine and the people in our community. WVII and WFVX were better the second he hit the air.

Wasn't There an Anchor in Bangor Years Ago Named Colson?

The Colson name is well-known in television news. Don Colson, Craig and Matt's dad, spent most of his life doing TV news, including many years at WABI-TV in Bangor, as the evening anchor and news director. Don passed his 'news genes' on to his sons, with Craig spending more than 20 years at WABI-TV, before moving to Townsquare Media where he worked with me in the newsroom, and then back to television at ABC 7 and Fox Bangor. Matt worked for many years at WBZ in Boston as a photographer who was actually at the finish line on the day of the Boston Marathon bombings. Matt decided, earlier this year, to make the move back to Maine and take the assistant news director job at WVII and WFVX.

Why Did Craig Leave in 2018?

Craig is returning after a 4-year hiatus that he said was precipitated by health issues. In 2018, he had a heart attack that prompted him to re-evaluate his life. He took some time to make some changes to his diet and lifestyle, working at his own carpentry/handyman business. But he really missed the news so, when Matt asked him to return, he decided it was time. We're so glad he did.

Craig will be anchoring the morning news on WVII and WFVX, so you can catch him on both channels between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., each day.
