Bangor Walmart Shoplifting Suspect Leads Police On a Foot Chase
A Bangor man is facing multiple charges after allegedly shoplifting at Walmart and then running from the police.
The Suspect Was Known to the Police
Lawrence Cyr, 48, of Bangor was taken into custody late Monday morning. He had outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.

Several Agencies Worked Together to Catch the Suspect
Sergeant Jason McAmbley says Bangor Police received a call reporting a shoplifter at the Bangor Walmart store at approximately 9:30 Monday morning. Mr. Cyr was allegedly seen shoplifting and ran from the loss prevention officer when confronted.
Officers with the Bangor and Maine State Police Departments responded, as well as members of the Maine Warden Service. A search for Cyr was launched, including the use of a State Police K9 unit and, despite the suspect being spotted several times, he continued to elude capture. Finally, he was taken into custody at approximately 11:15 Monday morning in the area near Oriental Jade Restaurant.
He Faces Multiple Charges, In Addition to the Oustanding Warrants
Mr. Cyr was taken for treatment of cuts and scratches he received as he fled through wooded areas. He was then taken to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with:
- Theft by unauthorized taking
- Violation of conditions of release
- Probation violation
McAmbley says Cyr was also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for probation violations for previous convictions.
