Two horses are dead after the vehicle hauling their trailer went off the road in Eddington.

Eddington Truck and Trailer Crash Happened Tuesday Afternoon

The crash on Route 9 was reported to the Penobscot Regional Communications Center at approximately 2:00 Tuesday afternoon. When rescue crews arrived at the scene, they found a truck towing a fifth-wheel trailer that had veered off the roadway.

Maine Officials Say the Truck Left the Roadway and the Trailer Hit a Tree

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, the trailer collided with a large tree, which caused the truck to detach and continue moving, resulting in more collisions with additional trees.

 

Officials say the driver of the truck suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver's name has not been released.

The trailer contained two horses, both of whom suffered traumatic injuries in the crash. One of the horses died instantly and the second had to be euthanized.

Penobscot County officials say several agencies aided in the incident, including several caring citizens, and a veterinarian.
