
Ellsworth Maine Man Sentenced for Selling Meth Mailed From California
An Ellsworth man is going to prison for trafficking in meth that he received in the mail from California.
Ellsworth, Maine, Man is Sentenced to Nearly 6 Years for Trafficking Meth
Lucas Michaud, 33, of Ellsworth, is sentenced to nearly six years in prison (70 months) after pleading guilty in January. He is ordered to serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence.

Michaud was charged with conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and conspiring to commit money laundering.
Maine Man Helped to Launder Money From Meth Sales With Online Money Services
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine, Michaud was one of several people who conspired to traffic methamphetamine in Maine.
The drugs were mailed to Maine from a source in California, with the intent to distribute them in Downeast parts of the state. Proceeds from the sale of methamphetamine were then sent to the source digitally, using various money services, like Walmart2Walmart, CashApp, and Venmo.

Officials say a co-conspirator enlisted Michaud and others to use their identifications and accounts to receive the money, as a way to conceal the source's involvement in the transactions and the money laundering.
Multiple departments worked together to investigate this case, including the United States Postal Service and local law enforcement agencies.
