Yes, It’s July, and You Can Get Reese’s Pumpkins in Maine

I am a firm believer that if launching the celebrations for the holidays a little earlier makes you happy, then go for it. Who is anyone to deny you of harmless, innocent joy? However, when I read about the Reese's Pumpkins being released in July, I had to investigate and confirm that I wasn't being tricked over this favorite Halloween treat.

It's Not Complete Insanity That Reese's Pumpkins Were Released in July

There is a reason for the madness at Hersheyland. One, why not, and two, the most popular Halloween candy became available for purchase online at Hersheyland.com beginning on July 23rd - exactly 100 days until Halloween. This seemed like no big deal to me. Fun, online promotion ... but then something caught my eye while I was at the grocery story picking up things for a summer BBQ.

Reese's Pumpkins are Available at Maine Hannafords

It's true. July 24th, an entire aisle at Hannaford was dedicated not just to Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins, but Halloween candy of all sorts. We are over three months away from most of us even picking out a costume. Kids don't go back to school for another month. What is going on?!

What Other Maine Stores Are Already Selling Reese's Pumpkin in July?

I had to investigate. Surely, it was just Hannaford. Stopped at a gas station and phew. Still some sanity in this world. This specific convenient store also had the Olympic medal shaped Reese's. The world is making sense again because the Olympics begin this week. Timely and accurate.

I got back in my car while releasing a sigh of relief after discovery some normalcy, until I spotted a Walgreens. Something told me to drive across the street and go through those sliding glass doors. I did, and I did, and inside, my trepidations were validated.

They were there. A small display, but they were there along with pumpkin shaped candy corn. All were mockingly under a sign that said, 'soak up the summer.' I was lost. I was confused. I was defeated. I was alone.

At Least It's Only Two Stores in Maine That Are Selling Reese's Pumpkins in July ...

Right? I kept driving and oh, heck, there is Walmart. Of course, the Walton fam is going to jump early on this, too. Why wouldn't they? I walked in. I was disingenuously greeted. Although I wasn't too friendly to the greeter either. I was on a mission. Please Walmart. Do not have these delicious pumpkins on your shelves for at least another month.

I arrived at the candy aisle. Nothing. I went to the seasonal section. Nothing. Could it be? Unlike Hannaford and Walgreens, Walmart is enjoying the last half of summer first?

I never found Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins at Walmart. It doesn't mean they weren't there because I never asked an associate for assistance. I am a man who doesn't require instruction nor direction. I did find these cute Halloween themed toddler outfits, though. If the pumpkins aren't on the shelves already. They will be soon.
