
Dog Owners in Maine Urged to Protect Pets From Deadly Virus
Maine police have issued an urgent warning to the public after cases of a potentially fatal dog virus have risen in the state.
Here in Maine, we’d do anything for our dogs—they’re family, plain and simple—and that’s why when we hear about potential illnesses, we want to get ahead of them right away.

Several confirmed cases of canine parvovirus have recently been reported in the Houlton community, a highly contagious illness that can be fatal to dogs if not treated quickly.
The PSA from the Houlton Police Department continues by stressing that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the virus when given as directed by veterinarians.

Puppies are the most at risk for the virus, but older dogs that are unvaccinated or have weaker immune systems can also be affected.
The Houlton Police Department warned on Sunday, September 28th, that if your dog shows signs like vomiting, diarrhea, or extreme tiredness, you should separate them from other dogs right away and contact a veterinarian.

And there you have it! Recently, here in Maine, there’s been a spike in cases of canine parvovirus, putting dog owners on alert.
