A Maine sex offender listed on the registry faces new assault charges after being found with a child.

Maine Citizen Tells Police They Saw a Registered Sex Offender With a Child

Matthew 'Nate' Boegel, 27, of Bowdoin was arrested on Wednesday in Rockland. Boegel is a registered sex offender.

A concerned citizen contacted Rockland Police to report that they saw Boegel having contact with a juvenile.

Rockland Police launched an investigation and, with help from the Knox County Sheriff's Office, and Camden Police Department, located Boegel and the juvenile in Camden.

Maine Sex Offender Arrested After Police Find Him With a Juvenile

He was arrested on an unrelated warrant before the police found evidence of a sexual assault on a minor.

On Friday, while Boegel was still in custody, he was given new charges of felony sexual assault of minors and violation of conditions of release.

Police say they appreciate the citizens calling to report what they saw.
