
Maine Man is Sentenced for a Deadly Shooting in Naples
The owner of a Naples tattoo parlor was sentenced this week for a shooting in front of his business that killed a Maine woman.
Naples Maine Shootout Injured Three People and Killed One
Andrew Karp was arrested in connection with a shootout on July 30th, 2024, on Forest Avenue in Portland that injured four people. One of the victims, 54-year-old Susan McHugh of Gray, died of her injuries at a Portland hospital. A 45-year-old man from New Hampshire, a 48-year-old man from Yarmouth, and a 51-year-old man from Gray were all treated and released.
Six Other Suspects Will Be Tried Together
When Karp learned that an arrest warrant had been issued in his name for a charge of murder, he turned himself in. Five other suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit elevated aggravated assault and elevated aggravated assault, including an alleged member of the Outlaws motorcycle club. WABI-TV reports there are now six others suspects and they will be tried together.

Prosecutors say the shootout was part of a brawl between two motorcycle clubs, while defense attorneys said Karp fired in self-defense. WGME-TV reports McHugh's son and his girlfriend testified she had fired a warning shot to stop the attack and save her family. They say that's when Karp allegedly turned around and began shooting, firing eight or nine shots.
The Charge Against Karp Was Reduced to Manslaughter in a Plea Agreement
As part of a plea agreement, Karp pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday in a Portland courtroom. He's sentenced to 15 years in prison, with all but five years suspended.
He's also sentenced to four years' probation and, if he misbehaves or breaks a no-contact requirement, he will be returned to prison to serve the full 15 years.
