Video of a Burglary Suspect in Orrington, Orland Shared by Police

Maine State Police have released a video of a man wanted in connection with burglaries in Orrington and Orland.

Why Those Two Communities?

There's no way of knowing why these two towns were targeted. But it's probably tempting for burglars to target smaller, rural communities where people are more apt to retire for the night or even leave home without locking the doors on their homes and/or vehicles. Houses are spaced far apart and there are often a lot of trees to provide camouflage for someone trying to break in.

What Is the Person Suspected of Doing?

But this is the digital age when it seems there's always a chance you're on camera. That can be good news for victims of crimes and the police who investigate them. Maine State Police posted just such a video on the department's Facebook page this week. Officials say the person pictured in the video is a suspect in a string of burglaries and thefts in the towns of Orland and Orrington, which occurred on Tuesday, May 9th. Trooper Gregory Ramp tells us that, so far, they know of four locations in Orland, as well as one in Orrington, that were hit. At this time, all five locations are believed to be connected. The Orrington case is under the jurisdiction of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, while the Orland crimes were in Maine State Police territory. It's early in the investigation so State Police are not commenting on the nature of the burglaries or what was stolen.

In the video, the man can be seen walking away from a white house. The driveway appears to be well-lit but the man's face is quite blurry. Still, someone may recognize his clothing or the way he walks.
