One person was killed in a sledding accident at Sunday River ski resort early this morning.

According to WLBZ-TV, several people were sledding on the closed mountain early this morning when one of them called 911 at around 2:00 to report an accident. Sunday River's Director of Communications, Darcy Lambert, says Oxford County Sheriff's Deputies, as well as firefighters from Bethel and Newry, responded to the scene. The name of the deceased has not been released and officials say some of the people involved were minors.

The mountain was closed at the time of the accident and Lambert says, even if it had been open, sledding is not allowed on their ski trails. The group was sledding on the Tempest Trail, which is steeper than most sledding hills, and is rated for expert to intermediate skiers.
