Literacy Volunteers of Bangor is celebrating a huge milestone this year already, as they've entered 50 years of serving the greater Bangor area by assisting adults with low literacy. As well as adults learning English as a second language. It's a huge barrier for adults to get over, and contributes to everything from poverty to mortality rates.

In an effort to keep being able to bring this service to free for adults, they are hosting their 7th annual Book Drive on June 25th. It's being hosted by The Briar Patch on Central Street in Bangor. On that day, from 11:00a.m. - 5:30p.m. people can come by and either drop off old books they've cleaned out of their house, or purchase books at The Briar Patch.

All books donated, and proceeds raised at the event, will go directly to Literacy Volunteers of Bangor. Also, the Darling's Ice Cream Truck For A Cause will be there with sweet treats for the kids. In addition to all that, there will also be tons of special guests there to read stories every hour.

And if you can't make it out to any of the events that day, you can drop off books or donations at The Briar Patch before the event, as well as any Darling's location in Brewer, Bangor, Augusta or Ellsworth, right up until Sunday, June 30th.

And really, this is an amazing organization that does so much for this city. Anything you can do to help them out, is greatly appreciated.
