Thieves are the worst...

Years ago, I used to own a restaurant and once got a call from the local police that the place had been broken into. Luckily for me, they pried open the wrong door and didn't know the layout of the building. Since they seemed to be after cash, and not the scrap lumber being stored in the garage next to ours, the thieves moved on, empty handed.

For any business, theft is always something you kind of fear in the back of your mind. Whether it's something like corporate embezzlement, or being held up in a robbery at a convenience store, theft never really leaves a business owner's mind. It doesn't matter the size of the crime, and theft feels like a personal attack on some level.

A Bangor food truck was broken into recently, but the thieves seemed... lazy?

One of the owners of the Dreamer Food truck here in Bangor, decided to check on her truck in the wee hours of the morning, on her way to the gym. She discovered that the window had been broken, and that some people had gotten into the the truck. No matter whether they were looking for food or money, they only got away with one item...

A few bags of chips. Yup, all that vandalism and chaos for some chips, according to WABI. Granted, there are definitely people in the Bangor area that would identify as food-insecure. But if you're going to all the trouble of breaking into a food truck, why would you stop at a few bags of chips. Unless it was a more sinister reason...

Was it racially motivated?

There's no proof to say there was, but there are also no other Armenian/Lebanese food trucks in the area. And with so little stuff take from the truck, it would seem the possibility was to simply vandalize the truck. There were no clues left to indicate that there was any racist motivation, but we live in a crazy world right now.

One of the truck's owners, Anik Derphilibossian, told WABI that community support for them has been incredible since the incident, with folks offering to help in any way they can. Police are investigating, but there don't seem to be a lot of leads currently. But hopefully everything gets back to normal for Dreamer Foods soon...
