I miss trick or treating.

Well, it might just be that I miss being able to run around to people's house and fill a pillow case with candy. To me, pillow cases are the true champion of Halloween candy collection devices. You can keep your plastic pumpkins and all that. I need a maximum candy haul, and a little plastic bucket with a toothy grin just won't do.

But I don't remember ever being too choosy about what I got. Sure, I had favorites, but it was still candy. I absolutely, 100% never, ever thought even for a second, about how healthy the candy might be. Never, ever. But apparently, there is a "healthiest" candy for trick or treaters, and it's a favorite of millions of people.

Peanut M&M's are the healthiest choice...

Yup. Peanut M&M's. You were waiting for some awful like, health candy. You figured it was gonna be some twig and nut cluster that tastes like the underside of a lawn mower. But, with it's elevated protein content compared to a lot of candies, it's a better balance that can actually make you feel full, as opposed to pure sugar candies.

In fact, our neighbors in New Hampshire, their favorite Halloween candy all-around is Peanut M&M's. Maybe New Hampshire knows what's up. On the other hand, if you look at more than one survey, you'll find that state's favorite candies can vary a bit. New Hampshire also reeeeeally loves Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I see a theme here...

Well, not Peanut M&M's. Not even close. Apparently, our current favorite is Candy Corn. I don't disbelieve that, but I also know how polarizing Candy Corn can be. It's also been surveyed that we adore Sour Patch Kids. And Twizzlers. But none of that even gets into the same room with Peanut M&M's.

It would seem we certainly prefer candies that have sugar as the first ingredient. Half the time it isn't even sugar. It's high fructose corn syrup. But when it comes to whether or not we're even going to give a second thought as to the healthiness of our Halloween treats, the answer is clearly no.
