Two male eagles where having a turf, or air in this case, war up on the outskirts of Millinocket when the two crashed on the front yard of a home. Not deterred from the fight the two kept wrestling into the nearby woods.  The home owner called the Maine State Game Wardens and they came and gentle separated the birds.

According to the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife site: Warden, Andy Glidden. and his daughter Mikayla, who is a wildlife student at the University of Maine, went to the home and found the tangle that was the eagles.

It took Andy, Mikayla and Mark over a half hour to untangle and unlock these two eagles. They were locked talon to talon, and one had a talon in the others mouth and he wasn’t about to let go.

Andy, seeing the nature of the injuries, called IFW wildlife biologist Brad Allen, who oversees the bird group in our Bangor research office. Hearing the story and the description of the injuries, Brad made a call to Avian Haven in Freedom. I have personally taken several injured birds over the years and they are wonderful there. Wardens say that Marc, Diane and Terry from Avian Haven have established a fantastic track record of rehabbing eagles.

After being given a clean bill of health the rescuers released the two in remote locations from each other in hopes a rematch could be avoided.
