Man Arrested For ‘Abuse Of Corpse’ In Death That Occurred In Cushing
Authorities have arrested one man in connection with a death in the Knox County town of Cushing over the weekend.
Little is known at this time, even about the victim, as Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says the body has been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for an autopsy. They'll be trying to determine not only who this person was, but also the manner in which they died.
Moss says the members of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit have been processing the scene and conducting interviews at 834 River Road in Cushing.
"At this point in the investigation, a Cushing man has been arrested. 41-year-old Mark Gagne was arrested Friday, July 12, 2024, and charged with Hindering Apprehension and Abuse of a Corpse. Gagne was transported to the Knox County Jail...The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is assisting."
Gagne was expected to appear in court on Monday, Moss says, and the investigation is ongoing.
We'll update the story as more details are released.
