MDEA Seizes $30,000 In Pills And Arrests 2

Maine Drug Enforcement agents seized $30,000 in pills and arrested two people during a drug bust in Topsham.

Wednesday DEA agents from the Mid-Coast Task Force, along with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations and Topsham Police, searched a residence on Riverview Drive in Topsham. Over 4,000 pharmaceutical pills, including Oxycodone and Valium, were seized along with steroids and a loaded handgun.The street value of the drugs is estimated at $30,000.

Arrested were:

• Scott Crone, age 35 of Freeport, for illegal importation of Schedule Z Drugs (Valium), and Violation of Conditions of Release
• Benjamin Steers, age 45 of Topsham, for Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Oxycodone)

The seizure followed an investigation into the illegal importation of pharmaceutical drugs through the U.S Mail. Agents say the men were getting the pills by mail and then selling them throughout Sagadahoc and Cumberland counties.

Steers was taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he was released on bail. Crone is being held at the jail without bail because of a prior domestic violence charge.

Assisting in the arrests and search warrant was the U.S. Postal Service and Sagadahoc Sheriff's Office. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are likely.
