New Drug Popping Up in the U.S.

Doctors are warning people about a new drug with disgusting side effects.

'Krokodil' or crocodile in English, is a new drug that has started to pop up around the country. The drug is rampant in Russia and is used as a cheap heroin substitute. Right now in Russia there is a heroin shortage and people clearly are trying to fill the void with this dangerous cocktail.

The drug is primarily made of paint thinner, lighter fluid and codeine tabs. The drugs psychoactive agent, desomorphine, was synthesized in the U.S. in 1932 as a morphine substitute. Scientists where looking to create a less addictive and nauseating form of morphine. Instead they made a drug that's eight to ten times more potent than morphine. It's also much more addictive.

Using Krokodil has terrible side effects. Users can look forward to destroyed tissue and blood vesicles.In addition, the skin will turn a greenish color and become scaly.
