It's a bird, it's a plane...wait, it's definitely a plane.

Yesterday evening a small, single engine plane landed safely on Interstate 295 during rush hour traffic! The Cessna 152 was piloted by Sachin Hejeji of Falmouth. Hejeji was flying at about 2,000 feet from Waterville to Portland when he experienced a power failure in the engine. After not being able to power up the only option was to land on the highway.

State Police blocked off part of the highway for the emergency landing. The plane landed in the southbound lanes in Cumberland, and taxied down the highway before stopping in a median in Falmouth. Southbound lanes of 295 were shutdown from 5PM to 9PM Thursday.

Last April a Maine Warden Service plane had to make an emergency landing on 95, near the Litchfield traffic plaza.
