Maine State Police Investigate A Crash That Killed A Man From Glenburn In Stetson Wednesday
Maine State Police are looking into the details surrounding a deadly crash that occurred in Stetson earlier this week.
According to authorities, the incident took place at the intersection of Lapoint and Merrill Roads in Stetson, just after 1 PM on Wednesday.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that a tractor trailer unit traveling north on Lapoint Road failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Merrill Road and struck a dump truck that was traveling east on Merrill Road. The impact caused the fully loaded tractor trailer to strike a utility pole, causing it to snap and come to rest on top of the unit. The dump truck which was also fully loaded overturned onto its passenger side as a result of the crash."
State Police say that 64-year-old Scott Webber of Glenburn, who was driving the dump truck at the time of the impact was being taken to the hospital when he passed away.
39-year-old Peter Omweno of Denton, Texas, who was driving the tractor-trailer at the time, was also seriously injured during the crash. He was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment.
First responders from Levant and Hermon Fire Departments aided authorities in shutting down the road, while crews from Bouchard and Sons Towing, CMP, and Hopkins Milling and Paving worked to clear the scene. Traffic was detoured away from the scene for several hours Wednesday afternoon.
