It was this day in 1966, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway was established. The official legislation was passed in order to protect and preserve the unique deep Maine woods in all of its splendor.
The artist that is chosen for the program will get two weeks in a rustic cabin on the Allagash waterway in August. And by rustic, we're talking no electricity, hand-pumped water, woodstove, solar powered lights. Truly off the grid.
