After a summer of playing without a care, the Red Cross wants to remind families of some important safety tips, as we all prepare for the new academic year.

Hot weather and summer travel have led to a shortage of blood donations which could leave many in our state at risk of not having the life-saving blood supplies they need.

The Red Cross is working with state agencies and emergency services departments to get ready for any potential situations that might arise during the eclipse.

Folks at the American Red Cross want to remind you that some gifts don't necessarily need to be wrapped to be appreciated, like the gift of a blood donation!

To tempt folks to move donations back up to the top of the list, the American Red Cross is sweetening the pot by offering gift cards to all who donate blood during the month of November.

But the payoff for being brave and making the effort to give such a special gift is priceless.
