Washington, Somerset Added To ‘Yellow’ COVID-19 Counties
The Maine Department of Education on Friday moved Washington and Somerset counties into the yellow category in its color-coded framework to assess the relative risk of spreading COVID-19.
The yellow designation indicates the county has an elevated risk of COVID-19 spread. Under the designation, schools in that county should consider hybrid instructional models to reduce the number of people in a classroom.
Washington and Somerset counties join Waldo County within the yellow designation.
All other Maine counties are in the green category, indicating a "relatively low risk" of COVID-19.
The change comes as the state on Friday recorded 103 new COVID-19 cases, its highest daily case count since the beginning of the pandemic in March.
