You gotta love a little of the irony of this as yet another storm bears down on us here in Maine while up in Alaska  they have rerouted the famous Iditarod for….wait for it. The Lack Of Snow!

According to reports, warmer temperatures and a substantial lack of snow has lead organizers to re-route the race for the first time since 2003 and that was the only other time in the race history they have ever had to do it.

The Iditarod's new starting point will now be Fairbanks, instead of the small town of Willow, which lies 300 miles to the south, outside Anchorage.

Organizers said, "We did a lot of work on trail parts that were bad, but there just isn't enough snow to get over the mountains. The issue was making this safe for the mushers and the dogs," said Andy Baker, the Iditarod's board director.

The Iditarod' has been raced for 43 years and is a 1,000-mile trek through Alaska. Formal competition will begin March 9. The tundra journey has 79 entrants around the world who compete for a $70,000 prize
