City Officials Unveil New System Designed To “Notify Brewer”
When some giant electric poles came down across a major roadway in Brewer, during one of the destructive storms that swept through the state this past December, folks lost power and had some major traffic detours as a result. It had an impact on traffic and safety for those who travel through the city.
It's situations just like this that inspired city officials in Brewer to implement a new notification system to let the public know of the important happening around them.
Eric Glidden, Assistant City Manager for the City of Brewer, says the new system is called "Notify Brewer."
"This new system will allow the City of Brewer to issue urgent notifications, emergency instructions, warnings, and routine communications to subscribed residents via email, text message, and voicemail to keep people safe and informed."
It's pretty to easy to sign up for the service. You can go directly through the City of Brewer website, you can click here to go right to the link or you can search for the myAlerts App wherever you get your apps.
"The system is intended to be used for emergency alerts, as well as non-emergency notifications from City officials. Emergency Alerts could be related to specific hazards that require some kind of action be taken such as evacuation, shelter in place, boil water orders, etc. Non-emergency alerts are intended to disseminate important information to those who live and work in Brewer, including, but not limited to, meeting notices, road closures, missing persons, City events, City Hall closures, and important dates/deadlines. In addition to receiving information on your wireless device, you may also receive notification on your land telephone line (if you have one) depending on the type of incident or event. "
Brewer's new Mayor, Jenn Morin, says she is hopeful this new method of distributing important information helps to connect the community and keep them up-to-date on things that will impact them as they unfold.
“The City Council is thrilled to offer Notify Brewer to those who live, work, and recreate in Brewer. It will help us keep the Brewer community connected to important and timely information. Whether the message is about road conditions or a regularly scheduled Council meeting, we now have the capability to keep our community informed in real-time. "
Mayor Morin says it's not just limited to those who live in Brewer, but anyone who may work in or visit Brewer is welcome to take advantage of the "Notify Brewer" alert tool.
