Fire officials say one child was killed and another injured in a mobile home fire this morning. A third child was able to get out of the burning home and go for help.

The State Fire Marshal's office says crews responded to the fire at 292 Wing Road in Hermon at around 7:15 this morning. John Parker and Lasey Reidy live in the home, and had gone to run some errands, leaving the three children alone.

Officials say 9-year-old Wyatt Parker of Levant, John Parker's nephew, was killed. He was spending the night with his cousins. 10-year-old Ashlyn Parker was rescued from her bedroom by firefighters and is in critical condition. The third child is 8-year-old John Parker, who was able to escape the burning home and flag down motorists to help. Ashlyn and John Parker are the children of the two adults.

The parents returned to the mobile home as firefighters were arriving. A team of five Fire Marshal investigators are now working to pinpoint what caused the fire that they believe started in the kitchen.
