The Knowlton Community Park Campaign has made significant progress toward its $1.2 million goal, with a $25,000 grant from the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation, which brings the total raised to date to over $682,000.

“We’re thrilled with this generous donation,” said Jason Barrett, Campaign Co-Chair.  “The community is really rising to the challenge to support this effort to create a park in the heart of our city.  Local businesses, individuals, and families are all pitching in to make this happen, and this grant from Bangor Savings Bank Foundation will not only bring us that much nearer to our goal, but will encourage others to give as well.”

“This grant award from our Foundation to the Knowlton Community Park Campaign signifies our commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve by helping create a place for the Ellsworth area community to enjoy many programs, events and activities that will come with the completion of the park,” says Sheryl Edgecomb, Vice President and Ellsworth Branch Manager.

The park is designed by landscape designer Victor Rydlidsky of Ellsworth, and will feature, a children’s splash pad and nature play area, playground, ice-skating rink, walking paths, a central courtyard with a fountain and open pavilion, outdoor amphitheater, walking paths and wide open green space.  Plans for the park are on display at Ellsworth City Hall and on the Ellsworth City website.  Construction will begin in the spring of 2014.
