Headline Drawing Criticism

Fright-214-Chicago-Sun-Times-headline
The Chicago-Sun Times

The Chicago-Sun Times didn’t think this play-on-words would offend people…well, it did.

The Chicago-Sun Times thought they where clever with this headline, however the Asian American Journalists Association is speaking out against it. The AAJA and others have been outraged as the headline looks like a play on the stereotype of an Asian accent.

The newspaper says it did not realize the headline could be taken as offensive and apologized. The AAJA is giving the newspaper the benefit of the doubt but said: ‘An editor should have caught the racially tinged wording.’
