After considerable wait, the Jimi Hendrix biopic 'All Is By My Side' is almost upon us. Above is an officially released photo of star Andre 3000 of the hip-hop group OutKast as the legendary guitarist.

According to Brave Words, the film will receive its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival on Aug. 20. The movie centers around the period from 1966-67, when Hendrix was brought from New York to London by Animals bassist Chas Chandler. During this time, he was welcomed into the city's rock circles, formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience and recorded his debut album, 'Are You Experienced?'

'All Is By My Side' earned controversy last year when it was revealed that Hendrix's estate did not give permission for any of his music to be used in the movie. Instead, a supergroup of session players -- including guitarist Waddy Wachtel, drummer Kenny Aronoff and bassist Lee Sklar -- was assembled to record a handful of the blues and rock covers that Hendrix was performing in the London clubs at the time.

“We basically had to become the Jimi Hendrix Experience -- which is ridiculous," Aronoff told Ultimate Classic Rock last year. "First of all, you’re talking about how are we going to get those sounds, how are we going to get the feel ... I honestly believe that you have to have grown up in that time, you have to have lived through that time to understand and feel it. It’s not just playing the notes, you have to understand and have felt the whole cultural movement in the ‘60s.”
