Mmmmmm, Blueberries.

The 39th annual Machias Wild Blueberry Festival kicks off this weekend. The event draws thousands of people to Washington County every year. The festival runs August 15th through the 17th and is sponsored by Centre Street Congregational Church.

It all starts Friday with a flea market, blueberry farm tour, fish fry and children’s parade at 6PM. Following the parade a children's puppet show will be preformed at the University of Maine-Machias performing arts center.

Saturday kicks off two days of exhibits and displays by over 250 artists, craftsmen and vendors. Day two of the festival also features a fun run, blueberry pie-eating contest, fireworks and the Blackfly Ball. The ball features over a dozen bands on four stages.

The Machias Wild Blueberry Festival draws an estimated 12,000 to 15,000 people.
