How do you fare during the annual sneezin' season?

As an adult, I kind of grew out of my seasonal allergies. I don't know how that happens. You'd almost assume that people would be stuck with allergies for life. Like crappy luggage... Try as hard as you want, you're stuck with that stuff. But when I was a kid, this time of year was always just a nightmare.

My wife, on the other hand, she suffers year-round. She takes a med every day, all year long. So as I started reading about what this season was going to be like, I could already envision a world where I'll be awake all night, listening to my poor wife suffer from her allergies. Don't worry... I just move to the guest room, and let her suffer in peace, hahaha.

Pollen counts are already off the charts, for this time of year.

Dr. Chelsea Michaud, from Allergy & Asthma Associates of Maine, recently told WGME that this year could be one of the worst years for allergies, ever in Maine. For that matter, it's kind of already begun. Many folks are reporting an early start to this year's season, and it's only going to get worse as the weather warms up and trees start doing their thing.

Not only that, it's possible this could be the beginning of a trend for years to come, with an early start, followed by an intense season of suffering. The biggest thing you can do is get your medicinal regimen going, and stick to it. Lapses in your allergy management can prove to be a bummer.

Is there anything else that can be done?

When warmer weather rolls around, consider rolling your windows up and using your AC more in the car. Probably in your home, too. AC units have filters built in that help keep the pollen out. You could consider wearing a mask around the yard when doing yard work. We've all come to hate masks for sure, but whatever it takes not to sneeze.

It's also suggested that when you come in from activities that may cover you in pollen, that you take off your clothes and take a shower. This will help ensure you're not just spreading it around yourself. Besides, you'll need all the help you can get, if it's half as bad as it looks like it's going to be. Good luck...

At least these creepy-crawlies are likely to make you forget your sneezing...
