The Maine State Senate voted yesterday to enact a law that would ban anyone 14 or younger from using a commercial tanning bed.  Parents would have to sign a consent form to allow young people between the ages of 15 and 18 to use a tanning bed, and they would have to accompany their 14 and 15 year olds to the tanning salon.

This bill follows in the footsteps of an alike bill that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has said that he will sign into law that bans anyone younger than 17 from using a commercial tanning bed.

The use of tanning beds has raised the concerns of medical professionals and others, who believe that users can obtain skin and various other forms of cancer.

The bill now moves along to Governor Paul LePage, who so far has not taken a stand either way.
