The phone scams that people fall for.  It's hard to imagine, but they do.

Here's one that they're dealing with this week in Kennebec County, and the sheriff there wants to get the word out.

Recently a victim of this scam was contact by someone masquerading as a deputy.  The imposter told this person that an arrest warrant for not paying their taxes had been issued for them.  The so-called scam artist then told them in order to clear up the situation that they had to buy a $1000 iTunes card at the nearest Family Dollar Store or CVS Pharmacy.

Which the victim did.

Man, that's a lot of Rihanna songs.

The victim then followed through with what they were told to do - call the scammer back and read the number on the card to them.  Of course the scammer then wanted more money, which the victim did not have, so he or she finally called the Sheriff's Office seeking help.

Law enforcement officials would like you to know that It's pretty much guaranteed that cops will not be asking money of you, in person or over the phone, especially in the form of an iTunes gift card.  Even though that most probably like music.
