Neil Young Returns to the Road in His Handmade Hybrid
Neil Young is back on the road again -- but instead of working with Crazy Horse or Buffalo Springfield, he's tooling around in his handmade fuel-efficient hybrid vehicle, called the Lincvolt. He's even blogging about the journey, which has included stops at California's Joshua Tree National Park and the Imperial Sand Dunes.
The Lincvolt is Young's name for his retrofitted gas-gulping 1959 Lincoln Continental convertible, which has been transformed into a next-gen vehicle of the future with the addition of equipment designed to power the car on clean-burning cellulosic ethanol. The project has taken years to reach completion, having overcome a series of setbacks -- including a November 2010 fire that caused extensive damage.
The travel blog, by the way, is written from the point of view of the Lincvolt: "So, um, I'm a car. But I'm not just another classy chassis. I'm smart for a car . . . this is where I come to keep it real."
