One of the more popular walking trails will be closing early this year.

The Orono Bog Boardwalk will close for the season on Saturday, October 15th, which is six weeks earlier than usual.  Forty-eight more sections of the 1-mile boardwalk will be replaced between the 15th and next Spring, along with one interpretive station and one wheelchair turnout.

The new sections will join the other 251 that have been installed over the past three years, and will be built with the same composite decking material.  They will also feature aluminum siding and stainless steel footings as the others do.

The Boardwalk is managed by the University of Maine, the City of Bangor, and the Orono Land Trust.  It is maintained by volunteers.

If you've never walked on the Bog Boardwalk you really should!  Check out a great video produced by UM of what the bog has to offer HERE, or, check out the one below!
