The next time you go under the knife, you might not be the only one feeling 'Comfortably Numb.'

Classic Rock Magazine reports that a study conducted by Cardiff University Hospital asked doctors to pick the best and worst songs for playing in the operating theater while conducting surgery -- and although the results seem to indicate that the respondents were having some fun with the question, they still ended up making some pretty solid choices.

Topping the list is Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb,' followed by 'Stayin' Alive' by the Bee Gees. Rounding out the list are Sade's 'Smooth Operator,' the Wham! hit 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go' and Coldplay's 'Fix You.'

On the opposite end of the spectrum were an equally cheeky range of choices, led by the Queen anthem 'Another One Bites the Dust' and followed by Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door,' 'Everybody Hurts' by R.E.M., the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Scar Tissue' and Radiohead's 'Knives Out.'

While we tend to doubt that these are actually the most and least popular choices, surgeons were sincere when they said they do play music in the theater during most operations -- and that it "improves communication between staff, reduces anxiety and improves efficiency." And even if they weren't serious about 'Comfortably Numb,' your doctors could do a lot worse than Pink Floyd.
