So what is Siesta Sanctuary? It is a retirement and assisted living home for parrots, cockatoos and other beautiful birds who needed a permanent home when their owners could no longer keep them. This sanctuary does not re-home the birds but they do welcome the public a during the year to meet and learn about these beautiful birds. The home operates out of Harmony and will be open on Sat. Aug. 3, 1 to 5 pm. Admission is free but donations of flattened cardboard boxes gratefully accepted. they currently house 75 birds that talk, sing and play catch.
As a side note also in Harmony that day is the annual Open House at Bartlett yarns. This historic operating wool mill is only open once a year and this is the day.
