The man police believe killed his girlfriend in a hit and run was located as he was about to board a plane out of the country. The SUV he was allegedly driving at the time of the incident, however, has not been located.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release that 32-year-old Laudrinha Kubelso was walking along Howe Street in Lewiston when she was struck by a vehicle. Kubelso, who had moved from Angola to Maine in the past year and was four months pregnant, died at a Lewiston Hospital.

Police have asked for the public's help locating a blue 2001 Suzuki SUV, much like the one in this stock photo released by the Department of Public Safety. The SUV has Maine license plates 6593 UJ and is believed to have been driven by Kubelso's boyfriend, Evaristo Deus, age 33 of Lewiston.

McCausland says Dues was taken into custody at JFK airport in New York City as he was on a plane bound for Haiti. He's currently being held by New York City police while Maine State Police are making arrangements to send two detectives to question him and start the process of having him transferred back here. Deus is charged with murder.
