You have to love goats, especially very rare baby goats that now call Maine their home!

These San Clemente Island goats were born just this past week at Unity College here in Maine!  There are only about 800 of these goats left in the world, so kudos to Unity College for advancing the breed and teaching preservation!

A Unity College press release states, "San Clemente Island goats are a critically-endangered heritage breed, hailing from the Channel Island chain off the coast of California. Left to run feral on San Clemente Island for a century, they developed genetically independent from other breeds of goat.  With fewer than 800 of these goats worldwide, Unity College is dedicated to promoting the breed, increasing the geographical distribution, and preserving the genetic diversity of San Clemente Island goats through responsible stewardship and captive breeding."
