For quite some time now we have been hearing about the plight of bees.  They are dying by the droves and not for nothin’ but we really need them to grow the food we so happily pick up at the grocery store and this shouldn’t be passed over as unimportant.

In a recent article I read one reason has been identified and unfortunately we are contributing unwittingly.  How you ask? Well according to this many of the insecticides we use on lawns and gardens during the summer contain an ingredient that is decimating the bees.  After conducting a study scientists now believe the study concludes a deadly pesticides called "neonics", manufactured by Bayer, are killing them.

The study showed last season alone, 37 million bees died on a single North American farm. Unfortunately  Home Depot and Lowe's are still selling the deadly pesticides, but consumer and bee activists are trying to get them to stop. In the hopes that if one of the stores commits to stop carrying the pesticides, it could start a snowball effect that sees rival stores drop the bee-killing chemicals too.

Beekeepers are spearheading the petition to urge all retailers to discontinue the sale of “neonics” Europe has already put a partial ban on the pesticide for this very reason. It also appears the Home Depot may be the first of the giant retailers to stop selling the bee-killing pesticides.
