The Tastes of Bar Harbor kicked off today all over the town and tonight 6-9 is the dessert contest to decide who makes the best dessert in town. Bar Harbor info says: Purchase your ballot at the Visitors’ Center at 2 Cottage Street and then tour the participating restaurants and venues sampling their signature dessert, and then vote for your favorite. A $500 prize will be awarded to the most popular dessert. $15/person. Call 207-288-5103 for details.

Then tomorrow night a Pub tour runs from 5 -9PM. Tour participating venues for tastes of their featured beer and wines. Each ticket purchased includes a commemorative sample glass and 10 tasting tickets, (limit 1 per person), and may be purchased at the Visitor’s Center at 2 Cottage Street. $20/person.

But it doesn’t stop there. Saturday and Sunday both are chock full of fun and savory events as well.

Saturday’s events include:

  • A Sidewalk Stroll, for a taste of all that Bar Harbor Merchants have to offer.
  • A Craft Fair, from 10am-6pm in the Village Green, offering a taste of works from local artisans and crafters.
  • Cookbook author L.E. Barret, "Fiddle Mainia", Sherman's bookstore will provide books for signing.
  • Mad Chef Story Time for mad chefs age 4 and older. Come enjoy fanciful foodie stories and games, plus toothsome snacks at the Jesup Memorial Library, 34 Mount Desert Street. No fee.
  • Cookbook Author Talk and tasting 1PM
  • Essentials of Catering your own party 2-3:30 a Le Cordon Bleu trained instructor will give you the important essentials to cater your own party. You will receive inspiration to think out of the box for your next gathering and to avoid often glaring mistakes. Learn ten appetizers in 1 ½ hours. $50.
  • Craft Beer Tasting.
  • Coffee pour Demo, learn how to make a perfect cup of coffee by brewing pour over style.
  • IPA release party, Atlantic Brewing Company enters their 25th year of brewing, join them on

Saturday May 16th to celebrate the release of their newest beer! 04609 is a double IPA brewed to celebrate the beer community in Maine and on Mount Desert Island.  Part of the proceeds of 04609 sales will help fund a local pilot hop project. 04609 will be featured on draught and there will be games, music, and food!   • Chef’s table 5 PM, tables each hosted by one of Bar Harbor's finest chefs. Each chef will prepare and serve a special 5 course private dinner for each table, highlighting their particular cuisine and pairing it with fine wines.
