Some would say it is the only acceptable response to receiving a gift, or enjoying an evening at a friend's home. But the practice of handwriting 'thank you' notes is among the fastest disappearing skills. These days people are more likely just to send a text or email. And for the record, I am as guilty as the next guy.

Seems that we are giving in to the trend though I was talking to a teacher the otther day who said that they don't even teach cursive writing in their primary school. Add to that using a dictionary and mental arithmetic as two other skills being usurped by technology.

And according to research the fastest disappearing skills:

  • Handwriting a thank you note
  • Using a dictionary or reference book
  • Mental arithmetic
  • Reading a map
  • Going to the library
  • Better hope the internet doesn't go down kids.
