ZZ Top have been forced to delay the start of their summer tour. Earlier today (July 21), it was revealed that bassist Dusty Hill will have to undergo surgery.

According to a press release, a routine examination discovered two kidney stones. Hill's doctor advised him that they should be removed as soon as possible. The surgery will take place at an undisclosed date later this week. He is expected to make a full recovery after two weeks of rest.

As a result, the first week's worth of shows will not be played. They include: Morton, MN (July 25), West Bend, WI (July 26), Cincinnati (July 27), Louisville (July 29), Asheville, NC (July 30) and Bethlehem, PA (Aug. 1). The first concert of the tour will be at Sturgis, SD on Aug. 6. As of now, there is no word on whether they will make up those concerts at a later date.

Following that Sturgis show, on Aug. 8, ZZ Top will begin a co-headlining tour with Jeff Beck. Last week, seven more shows were added to their schedule, extending the tour through mid-September. You can get all the dates here.
