A Shocking Number of Maine Residents Are Afraid to Fly
Even though it doesn't make sense, travel by airliner is one of the safest ways to get where you need to go.
You would think being sealed in a metal tube and sent flying through the air at hundreds of miles per hour would be super dangerous, but it really is less risky than driving a car.
Of course, while air travel accidents are rare, when they do happen, they are often catastrophic.
Because of this, it does not really surprise me that much that so many people are afraid to fly.
About 1/3 of Mainers Are Afraid of Flying
According to an article by Pennsylvania's Coventry Direct, about 33.3% of Maine residents have a fear of flying.
The company, which purchases unneeded insurance policies for cash, recently did a survey to determine how much anxiety people from different states had with regard to flying.
The article says, in part:
To understand how Americans feel about flying today, we surveyed more than 3,400 people across the country, including residents from every state and a group of frequent travelers. We asked about their flight fears, how those fears have changed, and how they’re shaping travel decisions. The results reveal a country that’s eager to explore, even as concerns about air travel continue to rise.
In addition to determining that 1/3 of Mainers were afraid of flying, the study also determined that people from Iowa had the least concern about flying. Only 14% of Iowans had a fear of flying.
At the other end of the spectrum, over half of people from Alabama had some fear of flying.
