Maine State Police say the death of a Tenant's Harbor woman who was paddleboarding in Union has been ruled a homicide.

Tenants Harbor, Maine Woman Found During Search for a Missing Paddleboarder

Sunshine Stewart, 48, of Tenants Harbor, was found deceased during a search of Crawford Pond in Union.

Maine State Police Say the Union Paddleboarder was Murdered

It was just after 1:00 Thursday morning when Maine Game Wardens were called to assist the Knox County Sheriff's Office and Union Fire Department in the search for a missing paddleboarder on the pond. It was during that search that Ms. Stewart's body was located.

An autopsy performed on Thursday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the death was the result of homicide. The cause of death has not been released.

Maine State Police Hope to Hear From Anyone Who Saw the Victim Paddleboarding

Anyone who saw Sunshine Stewart paddleboarding on Wednesday, July 2nd, between 6 and 9 p.m. near 100 Acre Island on Crawford Pond, or who believes they have information about this incident, is asked to contact the Maine State Police at 207-624-7076.

Police encourage the public to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement.

This case remains under investigation.
