When Is Maine’s 2025 Tax Deadline?
It’s tax season here in America, which means it’s time to file and gather the required documents. But when is the deadline to file here in Maine?
There’s a saying that goes, ‘Nothing’s certain except death and taxes,’ and yep—it’s that time of year again. If you haven’t seen or heard all the ads, here’s your reminder: you’ve got to do your taxes, and the deadline’s coming fast.
For those wondering, ‘Why is this even a question? Isn’t Tax Day the same every year?’—yes, it usually is. However, Maine’s rules are a little different.
Tax Day in the U.S. is usually April 15th, but it can change based on holidays like Emancipation Day and Patriots' Day.
Emancipation Day is celebrated in Washington, D.C., on April 16th or the closest weekday, and it can push Tax Day to April 18th.
If April 15th falls on a weekend, the deadline is moved to the next business day, which is often a Monday or Tuesday.
Patriots' Day, a holiday we celebrate here in Maine (and in Massachusetts), can push back the tax deadline for folks in both states.
In some years, because of the holidays, we in Maine might not have to file our tax returns until as late as April 19th.

So, with that in mind, let’s get down to it: when is the tax filing deadline in 2025 here in the Pine Tree State?
This year, Patriots’ Day falls on Monday, April 21st, 2025—so will it affect Tax Day for Mainers? Nope, the 2024 Maine composite income tax return (Form 1040C-ME) is still due on April 15th, 2025, for calendar-year filers.
And there you have it—Tax Day for Maine and Mainers in 2025 is the same as it is for everyone else: April 15th, 2025.
