If Maine were Split in Two, Where would You Put the Border?
This has long been a debate among Mainers.
Let's be real, it's not totally a lie that Maine kinda feels like two states. When I was a kid it even felt that way, but it wasn't like it is now. Back in the 70's and 80's, while I was certainly too young to understand the finer points of politics, it seemed like the only difference between north and south was location.

People had their political opinions, but everybody seemed to just simply be from Maine. There were certainly cultural differences, but there wasn't a feeling specifically of distrust like there is now. People from the opposite ends of the state these days, seem to automatically not like each other. Mostly because of politics.
There have even been grumblings about the two "Maines" seceding.
You mostly see it on social media. People complaining about how Northern Maine does everything differently than Southern Maine. This divide probably makes sense from a current political standpoint, but I can't imagine there being two different states. It also probably exists in every state, on some level.
The subject just came up on Reddit recently, and some people took the idea fairly seriously, and others, not so much. A lot of folks seemed to think Bangor is where the North/South line should be drawn. I could almost buy into that argument, as Bangor is kind of two cities, for all the same reasons the state is.

But at least on the Reddit post, it was Mainers talking about their own state. On one hand, it was kind of sad to see that people on opposite ends of the state seemingly thought so little of each other. On the other hand, it's nothing new. So let's see where our fellow Mainers would draw the line, if there was one to be drawn...
